Questions about starting therapy?
It's completely normal to have questions before beginning. Here are answers to some of the things people ask most often.
What can I expect during the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other.
We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, what's been feeling difficult, and what you're hoping will be different. You'll also have the chance to ask any questions you have about the process.
There's no pressure to have everything figured out before you begin. My goal is simply to understand your experience and help you decide whether working together feels like the right fit.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions.
Meeting consistently helps build momentum and creates space for meaningful progress. As therapy evolves, we can always adjust the frequency based on your needs and goals.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes for individuals and couples.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes.
I offer secure telehealth sessions for clients located anywhere in California. Many people appreciate the flexibility of meeting from home or another private space, and online therapy can be just as effective as meeting in person for many concerns.
What are your fees?
My fee is $255 for a 50-minute session.
The fee and session length are the same for individuals and couples. Payment is due at the time of service.
Do you accept insurance?
I'm an out-of-network provider and don't bill insurance directly.
If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I'm happy to provide a superbill that you can submit for possible reimbursement.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you don't have health insurance—or you choose not to use it for therapy—you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care.
The estimate is not a bill. It is intended to help you understand the anticipated cost before receiving services. You may ask me for a Good Faith Estimate at any time.
If a bill is at least $400 more than the estimate you received, you may be able to dispute the charge through the federal patient-provider dispute process.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy is private and confidential.
There are limited situations in which the law may require or permit me to share information—for example, concerns about serious and immediate harm, suspected abuse or neglect, or a valid court order. I'll explain confidentiality and its limits during our first session, and you're always welcome to ask questions about it.
How do I know if we're a good fit?
Finding the right therapist is important.
A free consultation gives us the chance to talk about what you're looking for, answer your questions, and determine whether working together feels like the right fit for both of us.
What if I've never been to therapy before?
You're not alone.
Many of my clients are starting therapy for the first time. It's completely normal to feel uncertain or even a little nervous.
You don't need to know exactly what to say or where to begin. We'll take it one step at a time.
